The Ryeland
B & B in an original Dorset Shepherd’s Hut.
WELCOME
Nestled in the heart of Herefordshire at the foothills of Hergest Ridge you will find 'The Ryeland' on a working farm. Your stay will be truly relaxing and will take you back in time.
The Shepherd's Hut, made by the 'Reeve's' Company, has been completely renovated and dates back to around 1890, when it was used by Shepherds during the lambing season on the Dorset Downs. I bought it in 2012 and it has been lovingly restored and tastefully furnished.
In the evenings the Hut is heated by a wood burner and lit by electric lighting. When you wake you have the choice of having your breakfast in the farmhouse or you will find a breakfast hamper full of local produce has been delivered to your door for you to enjoy at your leisure.
The Hut
Situated in the corner of a field, under an Ash tree is the Hut, overlooking the rolling countryside. You enter the Hut by climbing a short flight of steps to a split stable door. On the left is a small stove which can provide plenty of warmth even in the chilliest of evenings. Also on the left there is a small oak Welsh dresser and opposite is a small chest of drawers. A small window above overlooks the fields and Hergest Ridge. At the far end of the Hut there is a daybed that converts into a double bed. All bed linen is provided.
Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the Hut and we have also provided a barbecue and seating area close to the Hut in order that you can enjoy your stay in full, but please note that we do not provide a television. We would like to remind you that ‘The Ryeland’ is bed and breakfast and not self-catering. Therefore we would kindly request that you do not prepare cooked food in the Hut.
The Shower Room and Toilets
A new toilets and shower room is available for your use in a separate building about 50 yards away. Toiletries and towels are provided.
Breakfast
A unique feature of your stay is a breakfast in the farmhouse or breakfast brought to you for enjoying in the privacy of the Shepherd’s Hut. The breakfast hamper will be, when possible, locally sourced and left by the door of the Hut at your requested time. There is a choice of cereals, yoghurt, fruit juice, a cooked breakfast and homemade bread and jams with a selection of teas and coffee available. Where possible, special diets can be catered for but please let us know in advance.
